The 2959 Plan Delux 3 Ring Binder (Brown)

This is easily the best prayer guide I have ever seen!
I am ordering my third copy of the 2959 Plan. I have worn out two others. What I like about the plan is that it helps me to cover many prayer topics in a week's time. There is also good teaching and encouragement regarding prayer in the book. I have used both the three ring binder and the spiral versions, and I prefer the binder version. If a person has a desire to have a consistent prayer life, but can't seem to get over feeling disorganized and overwhelmed by the task, this book could be your answer.

The 2959 Plan
My journal, "The 2959 Plan", has been a part of my life for such a long time that the binding is now held together with layers of tape. Because of this guide, my devotion time has been greatly organized. As the week goes by I feel, and you will, too, that I've communicated with God daily in so many different areas, (i.e. Fellow believers, Lost and Backslidden, Those In Authority, My Church, etc.) because of the details in this journaling. I'm praying and communicating with the Lord, with the help of the printed daily scriptures, prayer directions through each specific day and the notes I'm being prompted to make. This book has greatly enriched my life!

Great Prayer Guide
This book revolutionized my prayer life. It is an organized approach to prayer that will help you communicate more effectively with God while truly enriching your spiritual life. He gives general guidance and new concepts but also practical applications for everything.

Algebra and Trigonometry Structure and Method Book 2
Published in Hardcover by Houghton Mifflin Co (1997)
Author: Brown
Average review score:

A superb text
As a teacher of mathematics I have used a number of different algebra texts and evaluated many others. After an extensive search for a text that would meet the needs of students preparing for college-level mathematics, I decided that this book had no equal. The exposition is both clear and rigorous, and the problems are of real mathematical depth without being too difficult for most students. One of the best aspects of the book is the extensive drill on algebra skills included in every section.

The Best Algebra II/Trigonometry Text Available
I used this book (when it was written by Mary P. Dolciani) in 1973-74 as a junior in high school and loved it. The recent revisions continue the excellence of Dolciani and the series. The theory is sound and the examples are easy to follow. Especially important is the numerous exercises graded in difficulty that help the student master the material. This book actually makes students THINK and does not spoon feed the material.

I can't say enough great things about this text. My school district uses this text for the honors tract (9th/10th grades) but uses another text for the "regular" 11th grade Algebra II sequence. I feel this is unfortunate because all students can benefit from the rigors of this book.

A powerful, comprehensive, and lucid textbook
Faithful to the highest standards of traditional math, this rigorous and thorough tour of algebra and trigonometry is presented with meticulous clarity. It is an invaluable tool in its own right, but is especially worthwhile in preparation for advancing to upper level math concepts. The sections dedicated to word problems have particularly relevant real world applications, addressing the "When are we ever gonna have to use this?" issue with convincing examples. The organization is intelligent, uncluttered, and methodical. As a resource, this volume represents an investment of substantial educational merit, and uncompromising quality.

All About Telescopes

Fantastic book!
I want to second what the Fair Oaks reviewer wrote about this book. In my case I bought it 32 years ago at the tender age of 11, right after it came out in 1967. As I've related to my older sister, I've made use of it pretty nearly every week since then, and *aat*, as I refer to it, continues to provide food for thought to this day. It has a real appeal to amateur astronomy. For example, just a couple of days ago, I was wondering how small a field could fit Saturn's major moons in it, and I knew where to find out in *aat*, on the planets page. This is just 1 example of the numerous tidbits that are hardly in other books.

Great Book
This book was perfect for me as a high school student with an interest in astronomy. It had all the information I needed to grind my first telescope mirror and build my first telescope plus plenty to get me started on observing and celestial photography. This is one of my favorite books and I still use it today, 30 years after I purchased it.

Excellent Introductory Text
This book contains a surprising amount of information. While not greatly detailed, it does contain enough information for a beginner to build a small Newtonian from scratch, including doing the mirror grinding and diagonal flattening. I used it as my only reference on my first mirror. While the results were only a bit better than 1/4 wave - that may have been as much due to lack of experience and impatience than anything else.

The ALTERNATIVE PHARMACY

Great reference
I like this book because it paints a broad picture: covering traditional medicine and then offering alternatives in homeopathy, herbal and chinese medicine. This is one of the only books I have seen which covers such a broad scope of alternative medicines from different disciplines and countries.

It was wonderful, very informative
I am very glad I have this book as part of my reference library. It has come in handy several times. Dr. Walker is great!!

This book is top rate!
I have read this book and would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking into aternatives for modern medicine! This is one of the best herbal remedy books I have read. It gives what modern medicine would do for the problem, then gives many different herbal remedies to try.

Superb Resource!
It's so rare to read a piece of nonfiction, particularly medical nonfiction, and be able to tell that the authors truly care. This is one of these books! Many thanks to the authors for putting it together so beautifully!

Excellent book!
I really enjoyed this book. It is easy to read and provides a wealth of information about various ways to treat and cope with fibromyalgia. It is particularly nice to hear the stories and experiences of others who have this illness. This book is unlike any other out there and I want to thank the authors for writing it.

A wonderful resource for anybody with either FM or CFS
This is the book that I've been trying to find for years! The authors have done a wonderful job of interweaving the stories of patients with the helpful advise from practitioners of all kinds. It is great to have the full range of treatments from both conventional medicine as well as alternative & complementary medicine. The stories from the patients are so validating to hear. It helps to know that I am not alone in my daily job of managing this illness. The resource guide and bibliography are invaluable. Thank you SO much for writing this book!

"The Angel Within," Conversations with Dahlia
To read ÒThe Angel WithinÓ is to take a walk in warm spring sunshine. Dahlia, the narrator, speaks through Phyllis and Judy, and showers us with tender Love and gentle Wisdom. If ever a person has delighted in a motherÕs loving touch and good advice, that experience is continued and magnified through the truths of DahliaÕs insightful guidance. Dahlia encourages us to enhance our self awareness and gives directions as to how we may find comfort in our CreatorÕs gift of eternal consciousness.

It is more likely for a reader to feel rewarded if just one truth is gathered from a book. But ÒThe Angel WithinÓ fairly glows and radiates with truth and wisdom on every page. As Dahlia tells us of PhyllisÕs journey, Ò... To receive Love we give Love --- this is reciprocity. Life then becomes the meditation, moment to moment. This is awareness.Ó There can be nothing more valuable.

I boldly declare that the instruction and the intent of ÒThe Angel WithinÓ reaches a level with that of Socrates who admonished us that, ÒThe unexamined life is not worth living.Ó Dahlia teaches us to take the next step: to develop our own Eternal consciousness so that we may more fully partake of our CreatorÕs tender Love.

Arthur Babysits

Arthur's Baby
This book begins with Arthur's parents telling him and his siter D.W. that they are expecting a new baby in about six months. D.W. is terribly excited. She can't wait for the baby to come but Arthur isn't so sure of the whole thing.
The next day at school he talks to his friends about it, and they don't reassure him of anything. In fact they make him even more doubtful than before. Binky tells him that he should get some earplugs,or he'll never sleep because the baby will always be crying in the middle of the night.
Buster tells him that he can forget about playing afterschool because he'll have to go home and babysit everyday.
Muffy tells him that he'll have to change all the dirty diapers that the baby makes.
Francine tells him that he will probably start talking like the baby does.
For the next few months all Arthur sees are babies everywhere they are all he thinks about and not in a good way.
One day after school Arthur comes home and Arthur's mom shows him their baby photo album. He sees different pictures of him and D.W. when they were babies.
The next Saturday morning Arthur sees his mom packing a suitcase and he asks her where she is going. She tells him that she isn't going anywhere they just have to be ready if the baby decides to come.
Sunday morning Arthur goes down to the kitchen to get some breakfast, but instead of his mom standing at the stove, his Grandma Thora was there. She told Arthur and D.W. that they had a new baby sister and that after they had eaten breakfast they would go to the hospital to see her.
And so they did. They met their dad at the hospital and he took them to the nursery part of the hospital and he shows them Kate, their new baby sister.
On Tuesday Arthur's mom and dad brought Kate home. The doorbell was constantly rinnging and it was always more presents for the baby.
That night they were in Kate's nursery and Arthur's mom asked him if he would like to hold Kate, but he said "I'd rather look." D.W. said that it was for the better because Arthur didn't know beans about babies.
A few days later Arthur's mom needed help and she asked Arthur to watch Kate while she went upstairs. D.W. said that she would take care of everything. The doorbell rang and D.W. opened the door and some of Arthur's friends were there. D.W. told them that Arhtur coulnd't play, but they could come see her baby.
D.W. was very defensive and she told everyone not to get too close to her baby and to be quiet because her baby was sleeping. Then Kate woke up and D.W. said that Kate wanted her bottle. Kate drank her bottle very fast and when she was done she began to cry. D.W. told everyone that she had it under control. She kissed Kate on the head, but that didn't stop the crying, she bounced Kate up and down but Kate wailed louder, then Arthur picked up Kate and patted her on the back. Kate let out a big burp and Arthur told everyone that everything was all right now.
I thought this was a great book especially for a family that is expecting and already has one or more children. It tells kids that there is no reason to exclude yourself and not be a part of the new baby and it tells them that even if you think you can't you can help with the new baby. I recommend this to any family that is expectin and would urge them to read it to their kids and fully explain what they can do to help when the baby arrives.

A great book for expecting a third child
This was such a great book for an older sibling expecting a baby brother or sister as well as for expecting a third child in the family. It really touched on what children might be wonderring or worrying about, helping both the child and the parent to open up and discuss these fears and concerns. My kids loved this and all the Arthur books.

Arthur has a new baby sister.
Arthur has a new baby sister named Kate. But, Arthur isn't so excited. He is scared that she will be like DW (his other sister). But, it turns out she really isn't like DW. Arthur wishes that Kate was sleeping in his room. One day Kate started to cry and when DW was getting Kate a toy, Arthur saved the day.

Thanks to all who reccommended this book!
After first purchasing a dud, I was skeptical that this book was all the reviews said it was. I was wrong! This book was exactly what I, as an experienced artist new to polymer clay, was looking for. I will wear this one out looking at the ideas and techniques.

Insipirational
This is an absolutely incredible book packed with unique artworkby over 50 different & highly talented artists. As an intermediatepolymer clay artist I look to this book when I need new ideas & inspiration.

Background information is given on each artist including education, technique & style. One or more the artists' best works are then displayed with basic information on the how the artwork was created.

Contact information for all the artists in located in the back along with a small dictionary & a list of reference books the artists' use. Several of the artists also answer questions about their working techniques.

Some on my favorite pieces are a chess set, a mosaic sunflower, a mushroom fairie & a millefiori trade rattle made out of a gourd. I also enjoyed the numerous pieces of jewelry including butterfly, fan & African animal pins.

Fascinating visuals of an extraordinary "new" art medium.
For any reader of Nan Roche's "The New Clay," this new book, "Artists At Work: Polymer Clay Comes of Age", is a refreshing addition to communicate the beauty, imagination, and intricacy of the polmer clay medium. Having personally seen the works of the the authors as well as contributing artists, this book demonstrates the limitless ways this medium allows artistic expression, from whimisical to serious. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in seeing the best of polymer clay artists "performing" today. Laura Darlington Washington, D.C. ldarlington@comsysinc.com

The Battle of Hurtgen Forest
Published in Paperback by University of Pennsylvania Press (September, 2002)
Author: Charles Brown MacDonald
Average review score:

Attrition at its worse
MacDonald's text is the original non-scholarly texts written on this battle, he does however reference many Allied and German war records and unit histories as well as personal accounts of troops who were present. His credentials as a military historian are also well established adding significant value to this work.
This text is very well written and is the origin for many of the theories that are often repeated with regards to this battle - specifically that it was a useless use of manpower and that it never had the proper goals or objectives (the Roer River Dams specifically). Indeed, MacDonald quotes German commanders puzzlement about why the Americans were making such strong attacks into the forest.
Hindsight makes us wonder why the attack into the forest was pressed Division by Division with the loss of armored, artillery and air support and indeed the forest and the Germans extracted a heavy toll. Indeed one wonders why an airborne attack at the Roer River Dams coupled with a an armored push north (the Aachen Gap) and South (to the Roer) was not used to isolate the forest defenders, especially when one considers what was accomplished in the Falaise and Roer Pockets by the Allies or in the numerous encirclements achieved by the Wehrmacht on the Ostfront. Instead it appears that Eisenhower's broad front strategy condemned many soldiers to slugging it out yard by yard in the forest.
Regardless of the opinions or analysis aided by nearly 60 years of time - this is an excellent text and well worth reading as an insight into some of the hardest combat the allies saw in the ETO.

Excellent short history
Charles MacDonald covers a lot of the same ground in "Siegfried Line" and "Three Battles", and those books have nicer maps. This book has the advantage of focusing on the Forest only (up to the Battle of the Bulge), and is fair and readable in the typical MacDonald style. For what the book is meant to be (i.e. popular history), it's superb. Other sources will have more detailed descriptions of certain battles and better maps.

First Huertgen Forest Account Returns
The late Charles B MacDonald served as an officer of infantry in World War II and later became a civilian historian in the U.S. Army's historical division. His memoir, _Company Commander_ has enjoyed classic status. He also contributed three volumes to the Official History of the U.S. Army in World War II, commonly known as the "Green Books." This work, first published in 1963, still holds a valued place in World War II historiography.Although such recent authors as Gerald Astor (The Bloody Forest, 2000), Edward G. Miller (A Dark and Bloody Ground, 1995) and Robert Sterling Rush (Hell in Hurtgen Forest, 2001) have contributed new studies that take advantage of the latest sources, they all owe a debt of gratitude to MacDonald. MacDonald was the first to argue that the American planners failed to appreciate the importance of the Roer River dams as a primary objective of the Huertgen Forest campaign. He was also the first to state the Huertgen Forest was a wasteful squander of American lives and should have been avoided. Again, he was the first to criticize the American leadership for not fully comprehending the detrimental affects of the rugged terrain, the staunch German defence, and the harsh weather conditions that was indicative of the slaughter in the Huertgen Forest. These three basic themes would provide a basis for Astor, Miller, Rush, and others attempting to provide any future analysis of the campaign. MacDonald places the initial probes into the forest in September, 1944; the failure of the 9th Division in October; the decimation of the 28th Division in early November; and the final breakout in late November in overall perspective. MacDonald also provides a summation of Eisenhower's "broad-front strategy", a wide sweeping advance into the enemy's heartland, coupled with a strategy of annihilation, that of destroying the enemy and his ability to wage war. With this overall strategy in mind, what then was to be done with the Huertgen Forest? How were the Roer River dams to be captured when the heavily fortified town of Schmidt, and the better roads it provided for German armor and infantry, was continually denied to one American division after another? MacDonald does not tell us, nor, for that matter, does Astor, Miller, or Rush. The mistakes of generals are oftentimes evident; alternative solutions come harder.Yet, as a comprehensive narrative of the Huertgen Forest campaign, MacDonalds book was, and still is a solid foundation from which to build insight into what is perhaps the most difficult and bloody campaign in American Military history. A must for anyone interested in this terrible fight.
